Maybe old school is the best school

There has been a lot of news in academic circles recently about the advantage for learning handwritten notes have over notes taken on a keyboard (here's one such piece). Now there's some evidence that viewing a lecture in person is better for learning than watching that lecture on video. This article overviews a study by two University of British Columbia psychologists which reported that students who saw a lecture in person had "significantly higher levels of interest and motivation, according to the student's self-reports." Maybe old school is indeed the best school.
