Galatians 3:13-14 reads as follows:
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we could receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
On Good Friday Christ hangs on a tree. The cross is not only a means of death but also a sign of condemnation. Look upon that cross, upon the one there, and remember that he hangs naked, beaten, brutalized for us, in our place. He becomes a curse so that we might be blessed. He hangs that we might walk free. On Good Friday let us remember our Savior who hangs and solemnly anticipate his rising on Easter Sunday when the blessing of his Spirit will flow in resurrection power.
