Over the next several weeks I am going to write several posts on the topic of homosexuality. I take this on for a number of reasons. First and foremost, because of our current cultural environment, this is an issue the Church has to get right. What once was on the outskirts of society is now front and center, and we can no longer act like this issue does not affect us. Second, in many ways this is an issue that the Church has gotten wrong. We have at the same time held strong to the biblical testimony about homosexuality while coming across as unloving and uncaring. In order to have any credibility with those who might disagree with us, we must rectify the latter. Third, there is a tremendous need in the Church to equip believers to discuss this issue intelligently and appropriately. I hope with these postings to help on all these fronts. Let me lay some groundwork for this discussion by inviting comments and dialogue. I am not interested in demagoguery as much as I am interested in discussion. I have my convictions and won't hesitate to communicate them, but at the same time I never want to push anyone away through an inappropriate attitude. Let's dialogue together so that the Church can be strengthened and so that the gospel of Christ can be readily proclaimed to all.
