Denny Burk has written a great post on the importance of staying connected to church while in seminary. These are wise words that everyone considering seminary and those presently in seminary should take to heart. Here at DTS we require a confirmation of involvement in a local church for a student to be admitted to candidacy. I have tried my best to model this personally by being actively involved in attendance and service in our church. All of this points to a central aspect of our philosophy as an institution: Seminary has its place as a tool for education and spiritual formation, but it is not the Church. It serves the Church, and those who attend must recognize that as a central paradigm governing their time there.
