I just received a 2012 catalog from Crossway, and one new book really caught my eye: The Pastor as Scholar and the Scholar as Pastor: Reflections on Life and Ministry, by John Piper and D. A. Carson. As you can imagine, Piper writes as the pastor who is a scholar, and Carson writes as the scholar who is a pastor. I am personally interested in this book as a scholar because I have tried to practice an academic ministry at DTS that is pastoral in nature and outlook. I also minister frequently in my local church for the express goal of developing a pastor's heart, keeping my feet firmly on the ground in my academic work. I imagine this book will provide some important food for thought from these two men, and I look forward to a chance to read it.
